Joan Johnson has over 25 years of experience as a consultant and coach, working with leaders at all levels of client organisations in the areas of leadership development, organizational development, culture change, executive coaching and mentoring.

Joan’s early experience as director of a university continuing education program in business management fostered her interest in the importance of lifelong learning for leaders as they respond to continuous change.  Her corresponding interest in global affairs and social justice issues led her to pursue opportunities with public and not-for-profit clients in Europe, USA, Australia and the Pacific.

Joan is valued for her deep-thinking strategic leadership, pragmatism, and keen insight to working in complex, cross cultural environments, all of which is informed by her ongoing study and cultivated experience in the areas of organizational and leadership development, adult development, emotional intelligence, neuroscience, positive psychology and executive coaching. She walks the talk of lifelong learning and aims to bring her own self-awareness, humility and good humour into each client relationship. As a result, she is a passionate partner for leaders who are ready to face into their next growth edge.

Since 2004, Joan’s consulting and coaching practice has focused on building leadership capability across all levels of client organisations, thereby improving organizational culture.  She has led strategic planning, change management, and leadership development /executive coaching projects, often accompanying organizations and individual leaders on their development journey over multiple years.  She is skilled at taking a strategic, systems-thinking perspective, gauging current leadership capability and proposing practical steps that lead to step-change improvements.

Joan has worked closely with organisational clients such as the World Bank, the Australian Council for International Development, Oxfam Australia, CBM Australia, Victoria’s Commission for Children and Young People, the Victorian Inspectorate, and others.  She has served on several NFP boards globally, including the International Association of Coaching.  Previous experience includes 7 years in field assignments with the U.S. Peace Corps and 5 years as associate faculty at the University of Wisconsin in the U.S.

Joan is currently based in Melbourne, Australia and provides consulting, facilitation, and executive coaching to clients with a global reach.
